Dear friends,

Recently, I got back from my trip to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s and to meet with caregivers in north-western Ontario and the three Prairie Provinces. I was on the road for two months travelling over 10.000 km. I went with the support of Alzheimer Ontario and Alzheimer Perth. The trip was to be the first leg in my cross-country tour to talk to caregivers about life after Alzheimer’s, to raise awareness for dementia and offer my book for sale. Many caregivers who have already read the book assured me that the story of our long struggle with Alzheimer’s had inspired them and given them hope for the future.

As it turned out I only got to meet with caregivers in the Edmonton area, where I got a warm reception. I met with many caregivers in that vicinity, and a large percentage of them did also buy my book, “Miles for Memories.” The proceeds of the sale of the book, after expenses, are being used to raise awareness for dementia. However, by getting to meet with caregivers in only a few locations, the trip turned out to be very expensive for me.

I wish to thank Debbie Deichert and the Alzheimer Perth staff and Ross Taylor from “Ross Bike Works” for their involvement in replacing my Norco Outremont bike, which was stolen in Winnipeg, with a brand new Giant bike. Also the wonderful people of Stratford and area who came out and donated the funds for the new bike. Woodcock Bros and Jim Hunt for delivering it to me in Edmonton. I can tell you that when the bike arrived it lifted my spirits. What you did together was a Classic Stratford Community Act. My thanks to each and every one of you.
